New Healthcare Facility is the First of Its Kind in Kingston

Celebrating its official opening October 20, 2007

Kingston, Ontario -October 10, 2007 It wasn't without a lot of time and effort by many different parties that the new health care facility located at 743 Cataraqui Woods Drive, in Kingston's West end came to fruition.

Dr.'s Michael Van Buren and Adrina Patterson had a vision over 10 years ago of building a joint complex in the city's west end to house both their practices, a combined dental office and chiropractic office. However there is a lot more to it than just that, the facility also offers registered massage therapy, custom foot orthotics and is looking to expand into some other areas as well, namely acupuncture and physiotherapy.

For some it may seem strange to have a centre providing chiropractic care and dental care in one building, but if you look beneath the surface there are many similarities between the professions. Chiropractors and dentists both provide check ups, and treatment for both symptom relief and problem correction whether it be for your teeth or your spine and nervous system.

The new facility, now home to Kingston West Dental Centre and Kingston West Family Chiropractic was a local venture, one of the many commercial venues to be completed within the last year.

"The open house taking place on Saturday October 20th, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm is to welcome new and current practice members to celebrate with us and to say thank you to the local neighbourhood for welcoming us to the area. Construction can be noisy and dirty, but we've received a warm reception. Total strangers would stop us in Home Depot or Rona and thank us for putting up such a nice facility in their neighbourhood. It makes you feel as though you've done a good deed," said Dr. Patterson.

"We really took our time and tried to pay attention to all of the little details that makes a place warm and inviting. If you have to come to a facility for your health care needs, you have certain expectations and we've tried to meet those for the patients."

The event on October 20th is not for profit.  Entrance is complimentary and donations to the Food Bank enable guests to receive a neck or hand massage, enter draws for various prizes as well as enjoy a barbeque if the whether permits. It will also consist of a recruitment opportunity for local talent seeking employment in the dental or chiropractic field.  There will be tours of the facility and demonstrations, such as proper use of a backpack, gaitscan (computerized foot analysis), scoliosis screening and massage therapy.
